Finding Abundance Under the Harvest Moon

As the days shorten and the air shifts with the first hints of autumn, September invites us into a season of abundance. The Harvest Moon, with its golden glow, has long been a symbol of gathering—both the literal harvest of fields and the personal harvest of our own lives. It is a reminder to pause and recognize the good that has been quietly growing around us, and its golden light encourages us to honor the fullness already here.

A simple way to honor this season of abundance is by practicing gratitude. Gratitude is more than saying ‘thank you’ and moving on—when we practice it fully, we slow down, notice, and let appreciation sink in. It’s a way of seeing the world. It shifts us from a mindset of scarcity to one of fullness, reminding us that even in the most ordinary days, there is beauty waiting to be noticed.

A Gratitude Practice

This practice is to provide the space to recognize what’s already here. Think of it as a mindful harvest of your own life—collecting the small joys and meaningful moments that might otherwise slip by unnoticed. Using the instructions as your guide, gather thankful moments each day for the next five days.

Part One: Daily Gathering: Take a moment, once a day to jot down three things you are grateful for. They don’t have to be big. In fact, it’s often the smallest things that carry the most weight.

Part Two: Deepening the Harvest: Choose one or two items from your list and explore them more fully.

  • Why am I grateful for this? (Describe how it made you feel or the impact it had.)
  • What perspective does this give me?  (Notice how this gratitude shifts your outlook.)

ExampleToday I am grateful for… My friend calling me today.  I am grateful for my friend’s call because it reminded me that I am cared for and connected, even when I feel alone.

A Moonlight Reminder…

Just as the Harvest Moon lights the night sky, gratitude lights the quiet corners of our lives. This practice isn’t tied only to the Harvest Moon—or even to the glow of any full moon—it can meet you wherever you are, in any season. Remember that this practice isn’t about perfection or collecting impressive lists—it’s about noticing. Even the smallest glimmers of joy can shift the way we see our days. When life feels heavy, return to this gentle practice and let it remind you: abundance is already here, waiting to be gathered.

This September, may the Harvest Moon remind you: you already hold so much light, so much abundance, right where you are.

Book Review: Women Living Deliciously

Women Living Deliciously by Florence Given is part memoir, part manifesto, encouraging us to drop the hustle for approval and instead embrace beauty, pleasure, intuition, and power on our own terms . The book isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence. It affirmed what I’m learning on my journey: that living fully doesn’t mean waiting for the “big” moments, but delighting in the details and giving ourselves permission to rewrite old scripts. It’s a celebration of reclaiming our joy and choosing to live with bold softness. My Takeaways I’m learning to value my own opinion of myself—to believe that it counts, even if no one else validates it. It’s easy to outsource our power—letting others decide what’s best or silencing our own intuition—but I’m choosing to come home to myself. I am not the noise in my mind. I am the one who hears it, and I get to choose how I respond. Joy lives in the everyday. If I wait for the weekend or retirement to rest and enjoy my life, I’ll miss ...

Book Review: Destination Simple: Everyday Rituals for a Slower Life

As I continue to learn more about slow living, I came across the book Destination Simple: Everyday Rituals for a Slower Life by Brooke McAlary—a book so small in size yet packed with powerful insights. It distills slow living into its simplest form, offering practical ways to create a life that feels more intentional and present.   The book is structured into three key sections: Rituals – Five foundational habits to anchor your days.   Rhythms – Establishing morning and evening routines to create flow.   Checking In – Letting go of the myth of perfect balance and embracing "tilting."   One concept that really stood out to me was tilting : the idea that life isn’t about maintaining a perfect balance at all times. Instead, it’s about shifting energy where it’s needed most and accepting that some areas of life will naturally take priority over others at different times .   McAlary explains it well:   Tilting is about being aware...
