Trusting Through Uncertainty: Finding Peace When a Loved One Is Struggling

Have you ever loved someone so much that their struggles felt like your own? It’s one of the hardest parts of being human—caring deeply but realizing you can’t control everything. When someone we love is hurting, sick, or facing an uncertain path, fear creeps in. We want to fix it, to make things better, to ensure the outcome we desperately hope for.

But what happens when we can’t?

I’ve wrestled with this—wanting to have faith but feeling afraid of being wrong or disappointed. I’ve held onto hope, only to feel crushed when the opposite happened. It’s a painful tension: wanting to trust but fearing what trust might bring.

I’m trying to learn how to trust isn’t about guaranteeing a certain outcome—it’s about finding peace in the present moment, even when the future is unclear. Here’s what I plan to focus on to help me navigate this journey.

1. Focus on the Present, Not the “What Ifs”

When we love someone who is struggling, our minds jump ahead. What if they don’t get better? What if they make the wrong choice? What if I lose them? These thoughts steal our energy and leave us drained.

Instead of spiraling into the unknown, I need to focus on what’s in front of me. What can I do today? How can I show up with love in this moment? The future will unfold, but right now, being present matters most.

2. Separate Love from Control

It’s natural to want to protect the people we love. But sometimes, love isn’t about fixing—it’s about walking beside someone without carrying their burden for them.

I need to remind myself: I can support them, but I can’t control their journey. My role isn’t to steer their path but to be a steady presence along the way.

3. Redefine Faith as Strength, Not Certainty

I’ve learned faith doesn’t mean believing everything will turn out the way we want. It means trusting that no matter what happens, we’ll have the strength to get through it.

For a long time, I thought faith meant confidence in a specific outcome. But now, I wonder if faith is about believing in resilience, in the ability to navigate whatever comes.

4. Shift Your Prayer or Hope

Instead of praying or hoping for a specific outcome, I need to start asking for peace, strength, and wisdom.

  • “Give me the strength to handle whatever happens.”
  • “Help me find peace, even in uncertainty.”
  • Guide me to support them in the best way possible.”

Maybe this may help me release the pressure of needing things to go a certain way.

5. Accept That Discomfort Is Part of Love

Loving deeply means being vulnerable. It means caring so much that uncertainty feels unbearable. But avoiding that discomfort would mean avoiding love itself.

I’m learning to sit with the discomfort—to acknowledge the fear but not let it rule me. Love, even when painful, is worth it.

Final Thoughts...

If you’re in a season of uncertainty, I want to remind you—your love is enough. Even if you don’t have all the answers, even if the path ahead is unclear, love is still a force that carries us through.

What about you? Have you struggled with this tension between faith, fear, and trust? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Book Review: Women Living Deliciously

Women Living Deliciously by Florence Given is part memoir, part manifesto, encouraging us to drop the hustle for approval and instead embrace beauty, pleasure, intuition, and power on our own terms . The book isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence. It affirmed what I’m learning on my journey: that living fully doesn’t mean waiting for the “big” moments, but delighting in the details and giving ourselves permission to rewrite old scripts. It’s a celebration of reclaiming our joy and choosing to live with bold softness. My Takeaways I’m learning to value my own opinion of myself—to believe that it counts, even if no one else validates it. It’s easy to outsource our power—letting others decide what’s best or silencing our own intuition—but I’m choosing to come home to myself. I am not the noise in my mind. I am the one who hears it, and I get to choose how I respond. Joy lives in the everyday. If I wait for the weekend or retirement to rest and enjoy my life, I’ll miss ...

The Art of Discernment: A Leadership Skill That Should Be Mastered

When we think of leadership, we often picture decisiveness, vision, and strategy. But there’s one underrated skill that sets exceptional leaders apart: discernment. As Hailey Bouche,  Associate Editor, in her  The Everygirl article points out, discernment is the ability to evaluate situations thoughtfully, weigh options, and make sound decisions—often without all the answers in front of you. It’s a skill rooted in self-awareness, empathy, and critical thinking, and it’s essential for thriving in both professional and personal life. So why is discernment so vital? For leaders, it’s the bridge between action and intention. While making a quick decision may seem like a hallmark of confidence, true discernment means knowing when to pause, reflect, and trust your instincts . It’s about sifting through noise to focus on what truly matters, whether that’s the needs of a team, the nuances of a relationship, or the direction of a project. The article highlights practical ways to build ...
