Quiet the Noise Within

There’s a quiet kind of exhaustion that comes from always being “on.” Our minds rarely get a rest anymore—scrolling, reading, learning, listening, thinking. Even the things meant to inspire us can leave us feeling full but not nourished. When every moment is filled with input, it becomes hard to hear ourselves think, much less feel at peace.

Quieting the noise within isn’t just about silence; it’s about space. Space to breathe before responding. Space to notice what you feel without rushing to fix it. Space to let ideas and emotions gently settle, like snowflakes drifting to the ground.

In both work and personal life, we face information overload—the constant inflow of data, decisions, and digital noise that demands our attention. At work, it might look like overflowing inboxes, back-to-back meetings, or endless task-switching. In our personal lives, it’s the news cycle, social media, notifications, and mental lists that never seem to end.

When we take in more than our minds can process, clarity fades and everything starts to blur together. We respond out of habit instead of intention. Our thoughts feel scattered, and even small decisions start to feel heavy. The good news? We can choose to turn down the volume.

Ways to Quiet the Noise

  • End your day with clarity. Before logging off or going to bed, identify what you’ll focus on tomorrow. A clear plan prevents a cluttered morning.
  • Overloaded email boxes don’t always require immediate action. Use Outlook Tasks to assign follow-up times or use the snooze feature on your Gmail app to snooze emails for reading later.
  • Do one thing at a time. Multitasking creates the illusion of productivity but drains mental energy. Group similar tasks or set focused blocks of time.
  • Handle interruptions with intention. When something unexpected arises, pause before reacting. Ask yourself if it truly requires immediate attention or if it can wait until your current task is complete. If it’s a person and it’s not urgent, kindly let them know you’ll get back with them once you’re free. This keeps your focus steady without dismissing their need.
  • Keep an adjustable priority list. Each day, review and reorder tasks based on what truly matters most right now. Flexibility helps you stay calm when priorities shift and prevents the feeling of falling behind.
  • Create moments of stillness. When feeling overwhelmed, stop, take a deep breath and regroup—you’ve got this.
  • Simplify inputs. Unsubscribe from unnecessary emails, perform a follow cleanse on social media by unfollowing subscribers, and silence all non-essential notifications.
  • Seek nourishing quiet. Replace constant stimulation with something restorative—reading, journaling, knitting, or simply sitting in calm.

As you begin to quiet the external noise, you’ll notice the internal chatter softening too. Clarity returns. You start to think more deeply, listen more fully, and move through your day with greater ease.

Book Review: Women Living Deliciously

Women Living Deliciously by Florence Given is part memoir, part manifesto, encouraging us to drop the hustle for approval and instead embrace beauty, pleasure, intuition, and power on our own terms . The book isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence. It affirmed what I’m learning on my journey: that living fully doesn’t mean waiting for the “big” moments, but delighting in the details and giving ourselves permission to rewrite old scripts. It’s a celebration of reclaiming our joy and choosing to live with bold softness. My Takeaways I’m learning to value my own opinion of myself—to believe that it counts, even if no one else validates it. It’s easy to outsource our power—letting others decide what’s best or silencing our own intuition—but I’m choosing to come home to myself. I am not the noise in my mind. I am the one who hears it, and I get to choose how I respond. Joy lives in the everyday. If I wait for the weekend or retirement to rest and enjoy my life, I’ll miss ...

The Art of Discernment: A Leadership Skill That Should Be Mastered

When we think of leadership, we often picture decisiveness, vision, and strategy. But there’s one underrated skill that sets exceptional leaders apart: discernment. As Hailey Bouche,  Associate Editor, in her  The Everygirl article points out, discernment is the ability to evaluate situations thoughtfully, weigh options, and make sound decisions—often without all the answers in front of you. It’s a skill rooted in self-awareness, empathy, and critical thinking, and it’s essential for thriving in both professional and personal life. So why is discernment so vital? For leaders, it’s the bridge between action and intention. While making a quick decision may seem like a hallmark of confidence, true discernment means knowing when to pause, reflect, and trust your instincts . It’s about sifting through noise to focus on what truly matters, whether that’s the needs of a team, the nuances of a relationship, or the direction of a project. The article highlights practical ways to build ...
